Health Literacy/Diversity/Adherence

Effective January 2015, the Health Literacy/Diversity/Adherence Merck Investigator Studies Program (MISP) Committee will accept proposals within our current areas of interest (AOI) up to May 18, 2015. This is a competitive process that will be conducted by the Health Literacy/Diversity/Adherence MISP this year. Decisions will be made on the basis of scientific merit and strategic fit within the AOI. Please review the critical activities and abide by the timelines as outlined below.

The following areas are of interest to Merck Investigator Studies Program Committee:

Note: Health Literacy may include: oral, written and/or numeracy.
  • Studies that evaluate the effectiveness of novel, scalable, approaches (e.g., new technologies, systems approaches, social media) to help patients manage and improve implementation of evidence based guideline recommendations for sustained medication adherence employing principles of health literacy.
  • Studies that evaluate the effectiveness of community based interventions that focus on patients and/or providers, aimed at improving Health Literacy; these interventions should enhance quality of care and improve implementation of evidence based guideline recommendations for sustained medication adherence and/or patient health outcomes.
  • Studies to evaluate the application of Health Literacy principles to increase enrollment and retention of diverse populations (e.g., African American, Latino, Asian) in US clinical trials.
